Absolutely beautiful release, I love the delicate melodies and the granular textures throughout. The release notes are very interesting and well written. The cover art is cool.
Favorite track: SEER 4.
The SEER EP is an audio visual collaboration between Kodomo and artist Glen Baldridge.
Glen captured footage in natural surroundings around Maine, leaving hunting cameras set up to record over the course of a year. The footage was then sped up and edited to create a time-lapse effect. The camera imparts a unique visual aesthetic on the footage and also captures footage at night, inverting the light.
The impetus behind the project began with time spent immersed in Maine nature, exploring the interconnecting components which underlies physical systems. When observing this simple time lapse footage, cycles and subtle morphing changes begin to reveal themselves. It is as if all the elements in the system (water, trees, weather, wind, wildlife, etc) move to their own clock cycle, yet are connected to each other in the way they interact. Themes of growth and decay, transformation, transition, randomness within repetition, and shifting cycles of time served as the inspiration for the music created. The notion that experience is dream-like — always moving, fleeting, and impossible to hold onto — plays out over the course of these videos. It was also evident to Glenn and Chris that there are emotional forces within these spaces. These “natural forces” are what the music aspires to describe.
Asymmetrical loops, drones, evolving textures and chance composition practices were used, along with live instrumentation and improvisation from Clarinet and Sax player Aaron Henry.
The EP will be released as both music and video art and will be premiered live at SPACE gallery on December 8th in Portland Maine. A limited physical release of 50 high bias cassettes will be available direct from our label.
An amazing album, navigating between experimental electronica and ambiant music. Very smooth and very rich, it is alwaays a delight to dive into listening this one. Thibaut Devigne
